Being a Group One race and a classic, only the top three year fillies will run and as a consequence, owners and trainers will always try to obtain the services of the best jockeys around. We profile three of these jockeys and suggest to punters that their mounts in the race will be worthy of close attention before they take advantage of a 1000 guineas Free Bet.
Top jockey bookings also have a huge effect on the 1000 Guineas betting market and in the past it has always been a good guide when looking for the winner.
The following jockeys have great records in the race.
Fallon, regarded by many as the best jockey in the world has had four wins in the 1000 Guineas, the latest being Virginia Waters in 2005. Since that win, Fallon has suffered a suspension for serious misconduct and as a result he lost his job as stable jockey to the prolific Ballymore operation. He returned to the saddle last year and will be hoping to make his comeback in the 1000 Guineas this year and is sure to have a good ride.
His other wins came on Russian Rhythm in 2003 for Top Trainer Sir Michael Stoute, in 1999 he won the trace on Wince for Henry Cecil and his first win came in 1997 on Sleepy Time, also for Henry Cecil.
Although yet to win this race, Jimmy Fortune is stable jockey to the John Gosden yard who train this years favourite in the 1000 Guineas odds, Rainbow View. Fortune is one of the most respected jockeys around and won the 2007 St Leger on Lucarno. In the same year he was top jockey at Royal Ascot with five winners. He has ridden Rainbow View in all her four starts and the two have become an unbeaten partnership.
Probably the best known jockey in the world, Dettori has earned his reputation as one of the very best jockeys to have ever ridden a horse. He is stable jockey to the Godolphin operation and it is they that have provided him with his two winners in this race. He last won in 2002 when he rode Kazzia to victory and before that he won the race in 1998 on the brilliant Cape Verdi.
